We might be a small team but between us we have over 40 years of experience in marketing, business development and branding, and of course – publishing. Our small team publishes only a handful of websites, and yes – they are small. But at the same time they are mighty – excellent content, outstanding reach and an audience that just keeps coming back for more. We offer our readers old-school quality without the modern distractions, an experience that most of us thought was gone and forgotten.
This has been one heck of a journey… An engineer and entrepreneur met by chance nearly 20 years ago – and the rest is just a history. Throughout the years we have worked with some of the biggest players in the automotive, marketing and publishing industries. What we have learned along the way was bad news for the little guy – the solopreneur. You want the truth? The game is rigged. After years of working for others, we have decided it was time to walk away and start on our own. It was an absolute nightmare…
The one-and-only, the one that started it all – Captain Electro.
This website was the wake-up call we needed. For many years Anna encouraged Max to write about the automotive world since this was what they knew inside-out. Eventually, Max gave in and captainelectro.com was born. Witty, opinionated take on the EV revolution with Anna giving it her own flavor and Max just dishing out the truth without painting it pink. In a world full of boring, specification-filled websites that focus more on advertising rather than delivering quality content, Captain Electro is a breath of fresh air. And since Anna and Max love motorcycles, sailing and flying, the website naturally expanded to cover those topics as well. Why the name? It was Max’s nickname back in the day when he was converting gas-powered cars into electric ones – long before Elon Musk even thought about setting up Tesla.
This one came as a surprise – and it took the world by storm.
After the success of Captain Electro, we started receiving requests for publishing in different languages. While the requests were random initially, they eventually turned into a steady stream of daily emails asking specifically for the Spanish version. Since we both are very fond of Spain, its people and cuisine, we decided to spend some time in this beautiful country and learn more about it. After a few years of brushing up our knowledge of this beautiful language, and with great help from our daughter, capitanelectro.com was launched and to our surprise – it took off like caffeinated bull running down the streets of Pamplona. With so many Spanish speakers around the world, this website is gaining traffic at an unprecedented rate.
As if the two websites weren’t enough to keep us up at night, we have a couple of new projects coming up soon… Watch this space 😉
When you ask anybody to tell you one, just one thing that annoys them most about internet content, it’s most likely they will answer: adverts! That’s right. But that’s just a start. Annoying ads running across text, covering the stuff you wanna read, never-ending questionnaires, cookies and email signups… that’s just what we have to put up with these days when we wanna read anything. And then there thousands of the websites that create absolute garbage just so they can put hundreds of adverts to annoy us even more. Unreadable stuff, auto-translated between languages and auto-created by people who have no clue what they are writing about. Yes, it hurts just to read.
That’s why we do things differently. First of all, we are experts in what we write about. If we hire someone to write for us, they need to be an expert in their field. Then we make sure the copy is fun to read, entertaining but still educational – at least a bit. And finally – we don’t do adverts. No distractions, no boxes to tick, no lengthy lists of cookies to choose from – just pure joy of reading. We want you to walk away smiling after you’ve read our articles, and we want you to come back for more, knowing you will have fun on our websites. The fast-growing audience seems to agree with us…
Wolf & Turtle is a family business, through and through. Nearly 20 years ago Anna and Max met by chance – an engineer and seasoned entrepreneur bump into each other in a small restaurant, unremarkable diner. The rest is just history.
Anna’s engineering experience was exactly what Max’s automotive businesses were missing. The two fell in love and started working together but when their daughter was born they realized 80-hour weeks were no longer possible. Everything had to change.
Working from home is a norm these days, but nearly 20 years ago it was blasphemy. Trying to run an international business from home was unheard of. But Anna and Max stuck with it, moved away from brick-and-mortar to online-only business. It wasn’t easy.
When Anna was pregnant with their son, she was diagnosed with a rare and incurable cancer. This changed everything. Health and family became the main focus, but soon Max’s health failed and they both were faced with choices no parent wants to ever face.
During the years of health and financial struggle, both Anna and Max realized that the online-only business approach needed some tweaks, and that the legacy and self-sustaining approach were the two things that would help them survive. After trying pretty much every online idea – from Amazon to social media, from blogging to travelling, from courses to Shopify – they found that the online publishing was the one business model that gave them what they were looking for.
“We have failed so many times. We went from the highest highs, to the lowest lows because we weren’t prepared. We didn’t understand what it takes to be ready for any eventuality. None of our business was ready to stay operational without us in place. We have learned it the hard way, and eventually we applied all the hard-learned lessons to our publishing business – and we never looked back.
Although we focus on publishing, our expertise comes from many walks of life. We were fortunate in the last few years to have worked with the largest online publishers. After we’ve owned a couple of very successful automotive businesses, it was an easy decision for our first publication to talk about cars. That decision in turn led to Captain Electro slowly expanding into everything we were passionate about – sailing, flying and motorcycle riding. With our own twist, of course. We were surprised, even shocked, at how many people enjoyed our point of view. We are forever grateful to our readers for sticking with us and supporting us along this wild journey. Here’s to many more years!”
